At In the Grape we offer a wide range of tasting services, from informal wine tastings aimed at the wine hobbyist to trade-oriented and industry-recognized wine certification classes.
Whether you are planning a corporate team-building activity or an anniversary celebration with vintage Armagnacs, we will work with you to ensure that the event is tailored to your needs and preferences, whether you are a wine novice or a seasoned connoisseur. We are happy to host the event at a location you have selected or make recommendations based on your group size and price range.

Certification Classes
French Wine Scholar (FWS) Series
In the Grape, Inc. is proud to be an authorized program provider of the French Wine Scholar (FWS) seminar series and certification exam.
The French Wine Scholar study and certification program is geared for members of the wine trade and serious wine hobbyists; it is designed to test for proficiency in the wines and wine regions of France. It is endorsed by the National French Wine Office and by some of the finest U.S. Importers of French Wine.
Intermediate to advanced students of wine, who follow this in-depth curriculum and pass the exam, will earn the French Wine Scholar (FWS) post-nominal.
The French Wine Scholar curriculum is comprised of eight, two-hour classes: Alsace, Beaujolais, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Loire, Rhône, and Southern France. An average of six to eight wines will be tasted per class.
Classes will be will be taught by May Matta Aliah, a NY based wine educator. May is a licensed FWS instructor, as well as a Certified Wine Educator (CWE) from the Society of Wine Educators and holds the prestigious Diploma from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (DWS) which she earned in 2000.

Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Classes at the International Wine Center
May Matta-Aliah has been a long-time instructor at the International Wine Center, teaching the WSET's Intermediate Certificate Class several times a year. The next class May will be teaching is the daytime Intermediate Certificate Class, IC 312, starting on January 25, 2012 at 10AM.
